Ocean

2D adventure game creates personality profile

About

OCEAN is a scientifically valuable, isometric, and colorful Role-Playing Game developed in Unity for a practical project course at The University of Applied Sciences (HTW) Berlin in Germany. As a result, the game is currently only available in German.

In the game, you find yourself stranded on a small island after a shipwreck, surrounded by water. Luckily, someone from a nearby larger island spots you and offers to take you to the main island, where a ship may be able to take you home. However, you must first prove your worth to the island inhabitants if you hope to secure a spot on the boat. While your initial goal is to get back home, what you consider "home" may change throughout the game.

The game was created to gamify personality tests and make the process more enjoyable and context-rich while still being accurate. The point distribution and results are based on the Big Five Personality Markers developed by Lewis R. Goldberg, including Openness (how open a person is to new ideas), Conscientiousness (self-control and acting dutifully), Extraversion (energy creation from external means and being comfortable in public), Agreeableness (general concern for social harmony), and Neuroticism (tendency to experience negative emotions).

My Work

During my work on the semester project Ocean, I held a leadership role in both project management and game design. As part of project management, I used Scrum to plan our workflow and was responsible for communication within the team and with external parties, including assigning tasks to team members. As the lead of the Game Design department, I collaborated with my team to create an engaging game loop for gamifying a psychological questionnaire. Additionally, I developed and implemented one of the main features, the dialogue system.
