Magicball
2D Platformer in "Jump King" style
About
Magic Ball is a challenging 2D platformer that tests your ability to climb to the top without jumping. The game relies on the player's skill to throw a sparkly blue and violet ball at obstacles to progress upward. The ball teleports the player only to its location when it stands still, making strategic throws essential to progress.
This game was developed as part of a student group project at HTW-Berlin. As the first of two assignments for the "Game Engines" course, we were tasked with creating a game using Unity and restricting ourselves to 2D options.
Our goal was to create a level that would evoke the same level of frustration and difficulty as other popular rage-inducing games such as Jump King by Nexile or Getting Over It by Bennett Foddy. We are particularly proud of the range and challenge of our level design.
My Work
Throughout my involvement with the "Magicball" project, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of essential features. This included creating the player controller, developing the throwing/teleportation mechanics, designing the user interface and integrating audio elements into the game. Furthermore, I was responsible for overseeing the overall game design and level design.
One of my primary focuses during the development process was to ensure that players had a seamless and enjoyable experience interacting with the game. To achieve this, I placed a great deal of emphasis on providing players with clear visual and audio feedback throughout the gameplay.
